The Benito Ros Case

Without anyone formally communicating around the doping case of Benito Ros, he was judged by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on March 4th 2014. The verdict has been made a couple of days ago. CAS still hasn’t published anything, the UCI has not communicated and neither has Benito Ros. The only info that exists at this time is a file that lists the UCI doping cases and sanctions. Also following the verdict of a 2 year suspension, UCI has made an update of all the results, removing the name of Benito Ros Charral during the period of suspension.

So this is the first case of positive doping control in the history of Trials. Benito Ros Charral has indeed tested positive for Prednisolone AAF- following the world championship of 2011 he had won. After three years of proceedings, he was banned for two years from the date of the positive test 03.09.2011. to 09.02.2013.

If we recall that time, everyone knew that Benito Ros was suffering with his knee, tendonitis of the patellar tendon (from memory). It was during this period his control is positive !!! We are not privy to the secrets of the gods, but it looks like a corticosteroid treatment which has an anti-inflammatory purpose. But there is no excuse for this, sportsmen must know what is in the producst they take for treatment and need to take precautions. Maybe one day we will have the answer and explanation of the various parties but for now no one wants to communicate officially this painful matter for the world of Trials.

The product under investigation Prednisolone is a corticosteroid. Here is what Vidal (the standard reference for drugs)

The result is the following: Benito Ros Charral was suspended for two years. To date he has completed his suspension. It was not effective on the ground, because of the length of the proceedings and the verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Benito Ros was stripped of all his titles and medals obtained in this period! Including the world title in 2011 and 2012 and bronze in 2013!
