Kenny Belaey who still hasnt’ completely recovered from the injury at his wrist during the first UCI World Cup in Aalter last year is riding again after 5 months.
Here is what Kenny has to say about it:
I made my come-back on a Red Bull tour through the US after being off my bike for more than 5 months due to the gnarly crash breaking my scaphoid, elbow and a tear in my muscle, that was during the 2012 World Cup opening round ( http://extreme.com/mountainbike/1022125/kenny-belaeys-crash-uci-trials-world-cup-2012-aalter ), followed by a second surgery in November as it never healed … That was the closest I had ever been to never being able to ride my bike again since scaphoids just don’t heal easily and hopefully I never have to go through such a terrible period ever again. I realize now more than ever, trials or any kind of biking is part of me and my life so hopefully it stays that way now.
The road to be ready for these shows was tough because my arm was immobilized for over 5 months in a cast and then I had only like 14days to be fit again for this trip … but impossible is nothing right? Thanks to months of hard work in the gym (except for my arm), intense physio and rehab exercises I was good to go, but still I had a lot of question marks in my head to be honest when flying to the States because, after all the shows were great!
The first World Cups and any competition are on hold right now, that would just be too much to handle so I will see how it goes and when I can be ready but for now my priority lies in traveling the world, do shows, make videos, have fun and just ride my bike every day like it’s the last one!
Feels great to be rolling again!
It all started in Seattle, then went to San Francisco, Portland and finally ended the tour in Bentonville, home of Walmart, to do a show there as well… All great experiences.
I was doing 2 demos at NBA games during their halftime break, one at the Golden State Warriors and another one at the Trailblazers game and they were by far the best ever shows I ever rode in my 20 year long career!!
I did it last year already (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQdU8tkUe0I) but then I couldn’t really go all the way on the court (my tires marked ). But this time Continental made me special NON marking indoor tires so I had no limits on the floor and the people showed their respect by cheering in masses… Unbelievable feeling!
Trials is such a cool sport, you can do it really anywhere for any crowd and I always wondered how it would feel to ride in front of 20 000 !!! Now I know and it’s awesome!!
A man who worked there for 33 years told me afterwards ‘this was the best halftime show he’d ever seen and the people didn’t even leave their seats this time’ .
thumbs up old man, you rock too
I would also like to thank my family and wife for always being there, all my sponsors for their support over the past 5, 10 and some even 15 years and thank you for your time reading this and scrolling through the pictures which you can find in the links below.
They feature my new GT Trials bike, the non marking Continental tyres and my new official Adidas outdoor outfit, shot at the stadiums and in Pacifica (San Francisco)
Here some of the epic scenery shots, made in Pacifica (SF)

What’s up next?
You can find me this weekend in Garda, Trentino @GTbicyles booth at the http://riva.bike-festival.de/de/news.html where I will join Hans Rey and Dan Atherton for some rides, give away signatures and put in some trials riding.
Today Hope tech is coming to my house for some filming in my backyard.
Good to see you on the bike again Kenny!!
