Crossbow is preparing to go to market with its first bikes after several months of development. In order to present Crossbow, is there a better way than to meet the boss, Xavi Casas outlining his philosophy and his many projects.
Trial Inside Xavi Hello, first of all can you tell our readers a litte more about yourself and your experience in the world of bike trials.
I began to ride trials in 1991, on a bike whose name was TRIALSIN. In 92 I saw the creation of the BIU. In 1993 I made my first podium in the World category of Minime. After that I moved to Moto trials for a couple years riding a couple of rounds of the European and World Championships. In 1999 I had a big knee injury and could not compete for 2 years. In 2001 without the ability to enter a pro team after my knee injury, I returned to Bike trial and have been riding until 2009. I was World Champion Senior 26 “in 2005, Vice-Champion World Elite 26 “in Bike trial, and also had some smaller titles like the european championships and Spanish champion. In 2004 I decide to invest in mediatisation to attract big sponsors and I started making Guinness records like climbin the Eiffel Tower on a bike. In 2009 I stopped competing as Biketrial was starting to become decadent I and I was only giving shows in the US and Dubai. Since 1991 and then I was very close to the sport being it BIU or UCI TRIAL, I have seen the evolution of sport as a pilot, as a spectator and now as an entrepreneur. I am 36 years old and I am more than 10 years into the world of Trials. It’s more than a third of my life in which I saw a lot of pilots, brands, and especially egos.
. Trial Inside: – Now you manage the brand Crossbow, what are the objectives of Crossbow, what aspect do you want to stand out from other brands? Precisely, is not it hard to get a place in the world of manufacturers that begins to be very consistent!
Xavi Casas:
About 2 years ago I decided to start a new project which with a focus on a range of bikes. But CROSSBOW is not a brand bicycles.Unfortunately, Trials is not a sport that allows a rider who is in the top 10 of the world to live like a pro. All riders, even the best, must give shows, look for small private sponsors and other product sales with e-Commerç and even some of them have their own bicycle brand. This is what I have been doing since 2001 until now. It’s a shame that a rider that is in the top 10 in the world is not well paid by a brand of bikes and can dedicate himself exclusively to train.I know exactly why this is not possible, but I will keep my personal opinion for a next, most personal interview. My project with Crossbow is to create CROSSBOW SCHOOL, schools in all countries where the brand has presence. We want to help young riders with their training and offer an exclusive product, a bike designed piece by piece, and a frame made in Europe. We will work to have the riders from the futer TOP 10 of the world ranking and we will pay well for these riders to be profesionals. All profits from all the schools will be used to pay these future TOP 10. It interests us young people, young people who make the effort themselves and the parents to work day to day with the goal of being among the best in the world. Our goal is to pay a salary to all young people trained in CROSSBOW SCHOOLS that are in the Top 10. This is why we work to create a range of high-end bikes with frame + carbon fork up and very lightweight components by CROSSBOW that will arrive gradually.
Trial Inside: Last year we saw Joan Figueras ride with the 26-inch Crossbow on the World Cup. What is his role in the company? Xavi Casas:Last year, we helped Joan finishing the races while we had our prototypes. Joan had a Kabra frame at that time with a CROSSBOW sticker … Now we have the CROSSBOW frames and Joan is riding with these prototypes. Joan helps us test 26” frames and also test our components arriving gradually. He also hopes to push himself with our aids to professionalize a little more and to take a step forward and be a few finals of the World Cup in the future. Joan is also the main teacher in our CROSSBOW school Barcelona.
Trial Inside: We saw 26 inches not that much of the 20 inches. Will you have an international rider 20” as well? Xavi Casas: As for the 20 “it’s me who is testing it, we did not decide what the international rider will be, for now we have a few options to consider and in a very short time we will take a decision
Trial Inside: When the first frames arrive on the market, what are its characteristics?
Xavi Casas: The frames are almost ready, but we will not sell frames only, we will sell kid frame + fork, since we want our framework geo respected you should install our forks. We are currently finishing the carbon forks 20 “and 26″.Our bikes will be mounted only in principle with the high-end CROSSBOW components. Carbon, Titanium. We hope to have the frames + Fork in June.
We will have a range of 4 models:
– The KIDs 920mm
– The KIDs + 975mm
– The 20 “1005mm
– 26 “1085mm
Trial Inside: Will Crossbow release a complete bike or is the goal to make frames only?
Xavi Casas: The ultimate goal is to have a complete bike with 100% components made by our engineers, even the brakes and tires. We plan to do everything, but at the beginning we will start with the frame + fork in June if all goes as planned and the end of the year I think I have the complete bike.Everything is already on the drawing board, even the 2016 novelties, but I work to find the best manufacturer for each product, and this is especially slow as I want to watch all this myself.
Trial Inside: – I’ve seen a logo on a school Crossbow Andorra and Barcelona. Can you tell us more?
Xavi Casas: Schools are one of our priorities, we will open schools in several cities with indoor areas (CROSSBOW SHEDS) I want to train young riders and provide work and a salary for the trainers that were good riders but may be have not had the option of living from the sport. This is the basis of the CROSSBOW.
